Peace Ayebazibwe Kabunga – Executive Director
Peace Ayebazibwe Kabunga is the new Head- Mortgage and Development Finance at Housing Finance Bank. Peace joins Housing Finance Bank with a professional experience of 15 years spanning an extensive career path in sales and relationship management, credit and Finance. She holds a Master’s Degree in Financial Management from Amity University, India, a Bachelor of Statistics (MUK) and ACCA.
Previously, Peace has held positions as the Head Mortgages at Barclays Bank and Head-Workplace Banking at Stanbic Bank.
David G. Opiokello – Chairman of the Board
Mr. Opiokello has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Housing Finance Bank since November 2016. He has served on the Board of the Bank for 7 years and 10 months as a Non-Executive Director. He previously held the position of Ag. Deputy Governor, Bank of Uganda, where he worked for 28 years prior to his retirement. He has vast knowledge of the Banking industry and is a professionally experienced Certified Accountant. He is a founding member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) and a member of the Associationof Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) of the United Kingdom. He also serves as a Director on Boards of other Organisations.
Patrick M Ayota – Non-Executive Director
Mr. Ayota has served on the Board of the Bank for 4 years and 11 months as a Non-Executive Director. He is the Deputy Managing Director and has also held the position of Chief Finance Officer at National Social Security Fund. He has over 23years’ experience in Accounting and Finance. He is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of South Carolina, United States of America.
Ms. Sarah Irene Walusimbi – Non – Executive Director
Ms. Walusimbi has served on the Board of the Bank for 4 years and 11 months as a Non-Executive Director. She is a Corporate Lawyer with over 30 years of experience in both the public and private sectors as a Company Secretary and Head of Legal Services. She also serves as a Director on the Boards of a number of Organisations and is a certified trustee in pension fund management.
She holds a Masters’ Degree in Business Administration from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute Arusha, a Bachelor of Laws Honours Degree from Makerere University Kampala and is a qualified Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and other Courts of Judicature.
Ms. Geraldine Ssali – Non – Executive Director
Ms. Ssali has served on the Board of the Bank for 4 years and 11 months as a Non-Executive Director. She until November 2017, held the position of Deputy Managing Director at National Social Security Fund. She has over 19 years’ experience in Management and Finance. She served as the Head of the Directorate Management Unit in Her Majesty’s Treasury, Ministry of Finance, United Kingdom.
She is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and Chartered Global Management Accountants. She holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration in Finance and Finance Professionals from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom.
Mr. Frank Katusiime – Non – Executive Director
Mr. Katusiime is the Deputy Chairman of the Board. He has served on the Board of the Bank for 4 years and 1 month as a Non-Executive Director. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Business Initiatives International, a firm that provides business consulting services and real estate solutions. He has been consulted by Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, NGOs and the private sector. He also sits on the Governing Boards of 3 Education Institutions and is involved in the operations of 2 non-bank financial institutions. Frank is an author of 2 books Money Mistakes to Avoid and Deadly Business Mistakes. He won the excellence award as the author of the best book
of the year 2017 at the annual Native Authors, Publishers and Booksellers’ forum in Kampala in December 2017. His current consultancy projects are mainly in the areas of financial freedom, career transition management and pre-retirement preparations.
Ms. Josephine Nakkomo Mukumbya – Non – Executive Director
Ms. Mukumbya has served on the Board of the Bank for 1 year and 9 months as a Non-Executive Director. She is the Chief Operating Officer of aBi Finance Limited. She has over 23 years’ experience in the banking industry where she had held several Management positions. She has attended training in Corporate Governance, Leadership, Risk Management, Agribusiness and has attained 154 hours of ICF Approved Coach Specific Training as part of International Coach Federation Certification. She also holds a Masters Degree in Banking and Finance from the Giordano Dell’ Amore Fondazione, Italy and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Makerere University, Uganda.
Mr. Paul Omara – Non – Executive Director
Mr. Omara joined the Board in May 2017. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Ngetta Tropical Holdings. He possesses over 21 years working experience in banking and has held several leadership positions including as Acting Chief Executive Officer at Stanbic Bank Tanzania; Director Personal and Business Banking Standard Bank Malawi, Head of Sales Stanbic Africa at Standard Bank South Africa, Head of Distribution and Country Sales Manager Stanbic Uganda and Head Corporate and Marketing Bank of Baroda.
Mr. Omara holds a Masters of Business Administration from Cardiff University-Wales U.K and a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Economics and Social Administration) (Hons) Degree from Makerere University, Uganda. He has also attended a number of Leadership programmes organised by Standard Bank and the Gordon Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria.
Mr. Jim V. Mugunga – Non – Executive Director
Mr. Mugunga joined the Board in September 2017. He is the Head of Communications and the Official Spokesman of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development and the Privatisation Unit. He is a Certified Public Private Partnership and Advocacy Specialist with a wide International PPP network. He has a remarkable footprint in business and investigative journalism with over 25 years experience in the broader communications field ranging from media and public relations, advocacy, public speaking, strategy preparation and implementation. He also has experience in public and investor relations, divestitures and growing private participation in business.
Mr. Mugunga is a member of Board of Directors National Housing and Construction Company Limited, the New Vision Printing and Publishing Company Limited and the International School of Uganda (ISU). An ardent advocate for good governance and sports, he serves in various roles with the Institute of the Corporate Governance of Uganda and the Uganda Sports Press Association. He holds a Masters Degree in Communication Studies from the University of Leeds (UK) and has qualifications in Journalism, Teaching and Mentorship, Public Relations, Corporate Governance and Public Private Partnerships.
Mr. Mathias Katamba – Managing Director
Mathias brings a wealth of leadership experience in the financial sector in Uganda and in the region as a whole. Prior to joining Housing Finance Bank, he was the Co-founder and Managing Partner of Progression Capital Africa a US$ 40 million Private Equity Fund based in Mauritius set up to provide capital and technical support to microfinance institutions in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Zambia. Before that he was the CEO of Finance Trust, now Finance Trust Bank for 5 years during which he transformed the institution from a deposit taking MFI to acquiring regulatory approval for a Tier 1 Commercial Bank. He has also previously served as the Chairman/National President of the Association of Microfinance Institutions in Uganda (AMFIU), member of the investment committee of the Deutsche Bank Global Commercial Microfinance Consortium, member of the Steering Committee for Client Protection (SMART campaign) at the Center for Financial inclusion and director at the Private Sector Foundation in Uganda. In a banking career spanning a decade and a half, he previously held various positions at Orient Bank Limited, Post Bank Uganda, Barclays Africa, Pride Uganda and Pride Microfinance Limited where he was instrumental in its transformation from an NGO into a Microfinance Deposit – taking Institution. He has advanced executive leadership training from Harvard Kennedy School (Harvard University) and Wharton Business School (University of Pennsylvania). He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Relations from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, Master of Science in Financial Management from the University of East London and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Greenwich.
Mr. Michael Mugabi – Managing Director
Mr. Mugabi is an Executive Director at the Bank and has served on the Board for 4 years and 9 months.He possesses over 20 years’ experience as a Legal practitioner and has served in various capacities in the Bank including as Company Secretary, Head Legal Services and Head Human Resources. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, United Kingdom and also serves as a Council Member at the Institute of Corporate Governance of Uganda. He has a Master of Laws Degree in Commercial and Corporate Law from the University of London,United Kingdom, a Bachelor of Laws Honours Degree from Makerere University Kampala,among other professional qualifications. He is also a qualified Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and other Courts of Judicature.
Ms. Anne Abeja – Company Secretary
Anne is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and other Courts of Judicature. She is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a member of several professional bodies. She holds a MBA from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute, a LLB (Hons) Degree from Makerere University and a post graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Kampala.
Mrs. Dorothy Kiyaga – Head of Internal Audit
Dorothy is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya and Uganda. She holds a Masters in Accounting & Finance from Makerere University and a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting) from Makerere University.
Mr. Medad Mwesigwa – Chief Finance Officer
Medad is a holder of a Masters in Arts (Economic Policy & Planning) from Makerere University, He is also a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, a Certified Public Accountant of Uganda and holds a Bachelor in Commerce (Accounting) degree from Makerere University.
Mr. Angubua Peter – Head of IT
Peter holds a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) and a MSc. from Makerere University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Uganda Management Institute, PRINCE2 certificate from APM UK.
Marietta N. Mwesigwa – Head Risk Management
Marietta is a Certified Risk & Compliance Management Professional (USA) as well as a Certified Continuity Manager (USA). She brings more than 10 years of proven banking experience, knowledge and risk management expertise. She is responsible for development, review and managing execution of the Bank’s Enterprise Risk Management framework. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Makerere University, Kampala. She is also a member of the International Association of Risk and Compliance Professionals.
Mr. Robert Nyehangane – Head of Treasury
Robert holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Makerere University. He has attained an ACI dealing Certificate, a programme that covers the entire Treasury function.
Mr. Paul Nuwagaba – Head Credit
Paul is an Economics and Financial Management graduate of Makerere University and the Uganda Management Institute.
Mrs. Muyinda Judith – Head of Marketing and Product Development
Judith is a senior member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), a pioneer governing council member of East African Public Relations Association (EAPRA) and a governing council finance committee member of the Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU). She holds an MBA in Marketing (Merit), Bachelors in Mass Communications, a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science, all from Makerere University. She has also trained extensively in Strategy and Management in Banking (Dublin/London), Marketing and Branding Financial services (Johannesburg, SA), Finance for Non Finance Managers (Acclaim Africa Ltd) and Public Procurement & Disposal of Public Assets among others.
Mr. Miiro Kwagala Phillip – Head of Credit
Philip joined Housing Finance Bank from DFCU Bank, where he worked for 6 years. First as a Senior Business Analyst and later as the Head of Relationship Management. He previously worked with Standard Chartered Bank as the Senior Relationship Manager, Global Corporates. Prior to joining Standard chartered bank, he worked in various capacities in Nile Bank Ltd rising to head Business Banking. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Makerere University and an MBA from Aberystwyth University-UK.
Ms. Hope Ekudu – Head of Business and Institutional Banking
Hope joined Housing Finance Bank after working with Barclays Bank Uganda for eight years in various capacities within the Operations department. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Statistics from Makerere University as well as a Masters in Business Administration from Heriot Watt University. She has also received executive coaching as part of the inaugural CEO apprenticeship club (2013), a program run by the CEO summit intended to nurture leadership talent in Uganda.
Ms. Jean Mutabazi Kasirye – Non – Executive Director
Ms. Kasirye is currently the Head of Operations at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). She is a Chartered Accountant with over 15 years’ experience in financial management, strategic planning, systems analysis and evaluation. She serves on the Boards of Crestals Africa Limited and Build Africa Uganda as a Chairperson and vice Chairperson respectively.
Ms. Kasirye is a Certified Public Accountant, holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Herriot Watt University, United Kingdom and a BSC Quantitative Economics from Makerere University, Uganda.
Mr. Ronald Bbosa – Head Human Resource and Administration
Ronald is a specialized Human Resource practitioner who prior to joining Housing Finance Bank, worked with KPMG Uganda, a leading global professional services firm, as a Senior Human Resources Manager. He earlier was a Human Resource Manager in Centenary Bank for 7 years and was behind their planning, implementation and evaluation of the Performance Management Culture. He holds a Masters degree in Organisational Psycology and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Makerere University. He is currently the Director of Professional Development on the Governing Council of the HRA Managers Association of Uganda.
